Dear Parents and Students,

 

          I am very pleased to invite you to participate in Lloyd Center’s Spring Fun

In-House Competition.  In-house competitions are great fun and a perfect first competition for skaters who are just starting to compete or those skaters that have competed previously.

 

          The date for this competition will be Sunday, June 1, 2008.  All entry forms are due by May 18th, 2008.  Please try to get your entry forms in on time so that we can schedule the best competition possible.

 

          If you have any questions about competitions or how you can be a part of this competition please ask myself; one of the other skating instructors; or one of the members of our staff and we would be happy to help you.

Eligibility:

 

All Skaters entering the competition must be current members of the Ice Skating Institute.  All entrants must compete at the highest level tested and passed as of May 1st, 2008.

 

Skaters tested at the following USFSA test levels may compete no lower than the corresponding ISI test level.

Rules:

 

This competition will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines contained in the most recent of Team Competition Standards and I.S.I. Test Standards.

 

                                                                

 

Entries:

 

Entries should be submitted to the Ice Rink office on or before May 18th , 2008.

 

Registration and Music:

 

All Skaters must check in prior to their scheduled event.  CD’s or cassette tapes must be handed in at the registration table when you check in.  Except for interpretive, all cd’s and cassette tapes must be labeled with the skater’s name, skating level, and event.  Please remember to rewind your tapes.  No more than one program on a cd or cassette.  Cd’s and cassettes may be picked up at the registration table one hour after the completion of the event.  Please remember to pick up your cd’s and tapes.

 

Awards:

 

Every participant will receive an award!  Awards will be presented at the awards table following the posting of scores for each individual event.

 

Photos and Video:

 

A photographer will be available to take pictures of any skaters wishing to purchase photos.  Any orders must be made at that time.  Videos will also be available to purchase on the day of competition.

 

                                                                  

 

 

Accounting Review Request:

 

Accounting review requests must be made in writing and submitted by the Team Coach to the Competition Director or the Chief Referee no later than one hour after the results have been posted.  All accounting review requests must include a fee of $50 that will be refunded should the accounting review request be upheld.  Requests concerning “judgment” will not be considered.  The Chief Referee’s decision will be final.

                           

Description of events

 

 

Tot 1-4

Skaters are to perform a program to music for one minute, including all the required compulsory maneuvers for the test level.  Since these are encouragement levels, coaches will be allowed to accompany young skaters on the ice during these events.

 

Pre-Alpha Through Delta Solo

Skaters are to perform a program to music for one minute, including all the required compulsory maneuvers for the test and one additional FS 1 maneuver.  Moves for a lower level are also permitted and any “uncaptured” moves for these levels are allowed.

 

 

                                                                    

Freestyle 1-10

Skaters are to perform a program to music and standard durations for the level, including all the required maneuvers from the test level.  Skaters are limited to three attempts per required maneuver during their program.  Additional maneuvers from higher test levels or uncaptured moves from higher levels are not permitted.

 

Spotlight Program Duration and Prop Specification:

Timing for all routines begin when any action starts, not to exceed 15 seconds after the music begins.  Tot 1 through Freestyle 3 will be allowed 1 minute.  Freestyle 4 – 5 will be allowed 1½ minutes.  Freestyle 6-10 will be allowed 2 minutes.  Props are allowed in all spotlight events.  Skater must take no more than 30 seconds to get their prop on and off the ice and must be able to handle it with no assistance.  Spotlight events have no required moves.  Skaters are limited as to the maneuvers they can perform in their Spotlight Programs.

 

-Pre-Alpha through Delta levels are permitted to perform all

 maneuvers at the Freestyle 1 level and below

 -Freestyle 1 through 4 are permitted to perform all maneuvers at the

Freestyle 4 level and below.

-Freestyle 5 through 10 are permitted to perform all maneuvers at the any level.

Skaters are permitted to perform any uncaptured moves from the levels specified.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Spotlights:

 

Light Entertainment: To entertain in a lighthearted, refreshing, vaudevillian fashion using music, costumes, props, comedy, dance, and skating moves.

Character:  Individual skaters portray an identifiable character through the use of music, costumes, props, and the skater’s actions

Dramatic:  An artistic theatrical skating performance by individual skaters that evokes an emotional response from the judges and audience.

Couples:  Two Skater perform a routine together that is entertaining, emotional or portrays characters using costumes and props.  This event is divided into low and high for partner selections.  Low – Pre Alpha thru Freestyle 3 (1 minute duration) High – Freestyle 4-10 (1 ½ minute duration.) If a freestyle 3 and a freestyle 4 skater wish to compete together they must compete and be prepared to follow the rules of Couples Spotlight High.

Interpretive:

 

Skaters will listen to a piece of music 2 times on warm-up.  The music will be played a third time for the skater to listen to while off the ice.  The skater then creates a program to the music.  Skaters will be judged on their ability to choreograph a routine, not on the technical difficulty of the program.

 

Couples Interpretive Same as regular Interpretive, warmed up and performed with a couple. Skaters will be grouped by level the same as couples spotlight.
